Healing Touch International, Inc. is the professional non-profit organization for Healing Touch.  We set standards for practice, administer certification, coordinate research & health care integration, & provide educational opportunities.  

What is Healing Touch?

Healing Touch is a program of energy system therapy developed by a nurse, Janet Mentgen, in 1980. It is considered a specific modality within Energy Medicine. The program began in 1990 as part of the American Holistic Nurses’ Association (AHNA). In 1996 Healing Touch International was formed, along with the training program for practitioners and instructors, currently called the Healing Touch Program. Healing Touch is currently endorsed by AHNA and listed as an approved program by the National Institute of Complementary Alternative Medicine within the National Institutes of Health. Healing Touch International sets the Code of Ethics, Standards and Scope of Practice, and certification and re-certification requirements for all practitioners and instructors. The Healing Touch Program operates the standardized, five-level training program for all practitioners. The Healing Touch Foundation supports research and funding for research projects.

What is the focus of Healing Touch?

Healing Touch focuses on the health of the human energy system and self-healing. The human energy system is composed of three parts: (1) energy tracts called meridians which follow the body’s internal nervous and circulatory systems, (2) energy centers also called chakras which connect the internal and external energy systems, and (3) the energy field also called the aura which surrounds and supports the physical body. Healing Touch is a holistic therapy because the human energy system contains physical, mental, emotional and spiritual elements. Disease, trauma, and illness in any of the energy system elements affects the whole system. The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the client’s energy system to promote self-healing.

All Healing Touch practitioners practice within the Code of Ethics, Scope and Standards of Practice established by Healing Touch International. Referrals to other health care practitioners will be given when client concerns are outside the scope of Healing Touch.
